Cooking Jackfruit as a side dish

It was the first time I have ever seen jackfruit being cooked as a side dish.  The Malays call this dish 'buah nangka masak lemak'. I caught Kak Bedah cooking this dish at the Ramadhan bazaar.  The video version is available on YouTube.  I download my own pictures and present how this dish is cooked in a more comprehensible way on blogger.

Kak Bedah has been generous in sharing her recipe with our YouTube audience.  I feel that I will do her more justice by presenting this way.

Cutting the jackfruit for cooking
1.  Pound red onions, lemon grass, garlic, ginger, galangal in a mortar. Put the finished product on a dish.
2.  Pound the belacan or shrimp paste with the ikan billis or dried anchovies and fresh long chillies. Put this on a dish.
3.  Pour out chilli powder in a bowl and add a bit of water to make it into a paste. Pour turmeric powder in a bowl and add a bit of water to make it into a paste.
4.  Prepare the jackfruit by cutting it into halves.  The seed is also cooked. Prepare a bowl of water.  Get ready the santan.  Wash the turmeric leaves and slice for garnishing.
5.  Pour oil into a kuali and fry item 1 until fragrant.  Add in item 2 and fry until fragrant. Put in item 3 and fry until fragrant.  Pour water to boil and add in the jackfruit.

6.  When the jackfruit is cooked, add salt, sugar, seasoning, santan to simmer.  Add turmeric leaves as garnishing.
